Quand on n'a rien à dire sur un jeu, on invente, on extrapole et on fait naitre des rumeurs. C'est cette fois le site Doomworld qui s'y met, et qui spécule sur ce que sera le nouveau Doom.
Une phrase en particulier se trouvant sur le nouveau d'id Software a attiré leur attention : "id Software is currently hard at work creating the next chapter in the DOOM legacy, building a new adventure based on the storyline of the original masterwork". Il n'en fallait pas plus pour leur mettre la puce à l'oreille, et d'après eux Doom 3 pourrait bien être un remake du premier épisode, le moteur 3D high-tech étant le seul changement.
